Rust removal by electrolysis

As you can imagine with a 20 year old car, there are lots of rusty bits and bobs underneath.  So we decided to run a bit of a chemistry experiment and try some electrolysis to clean up a few things.

Thanks to Antique Engines for the great info.  We managed to get soda crystals in Asda and used an old tile adhesive bucket, a piece of angle iron and car battery charger and it seemed to work well.  So far we have only tried it on some nuts bolts and brackets but it definitely does work.  Thumbs up from us.

Looks horrible, but that's it working!
